Let Yourself Laugh—Even at a Backyard Funeral Joke
Grief is heavy. But let’s be honest…sometimes? It’s also weirdly funny.
Like when you accidentally call your late husband’s phone again and leave a voicemail.
Or when your aunt says, “At least he’s in a better place,” and you mumble, “Yeah…on mute.”
Or when you find yourself crying on the porch…in a swimsuit…eating leftover funeral cake.
Grief does what it wants. So why shouldn’t you laugh?
Here’s the thing:
Laughter doesn’t mean you’re over it.
It means you’re human.
It means your grief and your joy can sit at the same damn picnic table.
So give yourself permission to:
😆 Laugh at dark humor
👯 Giggle with a friend who gets it
🎤 Share stories that end in snorts, not sobs
Humor is holy.
It’s grief’s weird twin.
It helps us exhale.
So yeah, laugh at that funeral joke. (You know the one.)
And if you make someone uncomfortable?
Good. You’re making space for realness.
