Why Summer Can Feel Like Salt in the Wound

Summer is supposed to be fun, right? Sunshine, pool parties, fireworks, drinks with umbrellas. But when you're grieving, all that loud joy can feel like a personal attack.

While everyone else is posting lake selfies, you're just trying to make it through the day without crying in the sunscreen aisle.

Here’s why summer can sting:

  • Longer days = more time to feel

  • Family traditions = huge reminders of who's missing

  • Forced fun = internal pressure to “fake happy”

Let’s be real: summer can amplify grief.

So what can you do?

✔ Say no to anything that drains you
✔ Say yes to small comforts—shade, snacks, solitude
✔ Schedule your grief like a meeting: show up, feel it, move forward

You don’t owe anyone your energy. You don’t need to “snap out of it.”
You’re allowed to grieve, even in July.

Remember: Sunshine doesn’t heal everything, but your boundaries can protect what’s still tender.

We’re just getting started, friend. Stay close. This summer series is for you.
